Dizzee Rascal Snubs Mercury Awards in Favour of GQ Awards
Dizzee Rascal may have lost out on this year’s Mercury Music Prize but he did have something to smile about this week – he can put his GQ Award on his mantle-piece instead.
Rockers The XX walked away with this year’s Mercury prize, ruining Dizzee’s chance of collecting the award for a second time but on the same evening the Bonkers hitmaker won GQ’s Best Solo Artist prize. And he must have had inkling as Dizzee chose to attend the GQ ceremony over the Mercury awards.
The GQ Men of the Year Awards’ ceremony took place at London’s Royal Opera House and other top accolades on the night went to Gorillaz, who were named Band of the Year, and The Kinks singer Ray Davies, who accepted the Outstanding Achievement trophy in recognition of his contributions to rock music from former Oasis rocker Noel Gallagher. Giorgio Armani was named Best Designer. Boyband JLS, who were looking rather dapper on the evening, walked away with Best Dressed Men.
