R.I.P Etta

Etta James, who was 73, died on Friday (Jan. 20), after a long period of declining health, including kidney failure, leukemia and dementia. The singer had been hospitalised since mid-December.

James had been inactive since early 2010, when it was announced she was suffering with Alzheimer's disease. She announced that she was formally retiring from music just before the Oct. 25th release of her final studio album, "The Dreamer;" in a statement James said that, "I wish to thank all my fans who have shown me love and support over all these years. I love you all."

The announcement of the memorial and funeral services have according to CNN, a public viewing will be held at the Inglewood Cemetery in Inglewood, California Friday, January 27 followed by a private funeral service Saturday, January 28 at Greater Bethany Community Church City of Refuge in Gardena, California.

The Rev. Al Sharpton will preside over the service, according to the family.
