Nicki Minaj - Pink Friday
The Trinidadian born New York raised rapper Onika Maraj better known as Nicki Minaj long awaited debut album Pink Friday finally hit stores.
‘Barbies’ and ‘KenBarbs’ will be satisfied with this 13 track album which features the best of Nicki Minaj and welcomes her to show off her colourful personas.
Pink Friday opens with a narrative song ‘I’m The Best’ on her struggle of becoming the artist she is today.
Bangladesh (responsible for Lil Wayne A Milli) produced Did it On ‘Em a futuristic raw beat shows us a hood and raunchy Nicki Minaj speaking about her haters and not paying them no mind.
Moment4Life featuring Drake is an inspiring song about living for the moment and doing you.
I was pleasantly surprised with Save Me which is just Minaj singing. I found the beat sounds like a Jungle remix of Lil Wayne’s Single with heavy piano chords but overall is one of the best songs on the album.
The album has more of an electro and pop feel, Nicki does her signature up and down animated voices and random adlibs as well as delivering in her Queens twang.
I was taken aback of her collaboration with English pop singer Natasha Bedingfield Last Chance works well and is very catchy. Natasha’s vocals works well with Minaj's flow.
Here I Am once again shows offs Minaj's singing ability as she sings the chorus and adlibs. The song starts of rocky but turns into a heartfelt mellow song about her being who is she is ‘here I am so take me as I am’.
The album also features controversial song Roman’s Revenge featuring Eminem and new single Right Thru Me.
Previous hits Your Love, Check It Out featuring Will.I.Am,Hello Good Morning featuring Diddy Dirty Money and Rick Ross and Massive Attack feauting Sean Garret.
Kanye West, Rihanna have guest appearances on the album I was pleased that her album is not overcrowded with features or any of her Young Money Clique.
Nicki Minaj has shown that she is more than a Barbie and able to hold her own.
